Differences Between IP Camera and CCTV (Analog Camera)

What is an Analog Camera?

Analog cameras are also known as CCTV devices. They are considered the classic type of camera in security systems. CCTV is an abbreviation for “Close Circuit TeleVision”. The Turkish equivalent of this term, meaning closed-circuit television, has been adapted as analog camera. Analog devices used for security have the feature of recording images from a specific location. In a CCTV camera system, the recorded image is transmitted to a television or monitor via a cable. In addition to the DVR device where the image is recorded, system components such as lenses and switches are also used. These monitoring devices may also have a microphone for recording sound. If not, sound recording can also be done by adding an external microphone to the monitoring device. It is suitable for both image and sound recording. CCTV device systems are used for traffic control and monitoring in public transportation vehicles, for product quality and control, in security systems to eliminate criminal elements, and in theaters and conference halls to monitor images in different locations.

What is an IP Camera?

An IP camera is also known as a network camera. These devices, which convert images into digital information, allow authorized individuals to view images over the internet and local network. Like computers, these cameras have their own IP numbers. Therefore, the software of network monitoring devices, called IP cameras, makes these cameras function like a web server. Thanks to their advanced hardware, network cameras can be programmed, store images, manage alarms, and perform motion detection, and can operate connected to a router, switch, or hub without being connected to a computer. The ability to remotely access allows IP monitoring devices to provide users with access to camera images from any location using an authorized computer, tablet, or mobile phone. Advanced IP devices feature functions that make the security system more useful, such as motion and sound detection, and tamper alarms with input/output capabilities.
