What Does Group D Stock Mean on the Stock Exchange?

What is the Stock Exchange in Brief?

The stock exchange is the term for institutionalized markets where securities such as stocks or commodities defined by trading methods are traded. The stock exchange can be described as an organization, a type of market where buyers and sellers meet, thanks to the presence of intermediaries. The current name is BIST (Borsa Istanbul), formerly İMKB (Istanbul Stock Exchange), which was opened with an official ceremony on December 26, 1985, and began to be called BIST, or Borsa Istanbul, on April 3, 2013. In stock exchange transactions, stocks, bonds, debentures, and similar investment instruments between parties can change hands an infinite number of times within certain rules and conditions. In these processes, there is no need for buyers and sellers to meet face-to-face or communicate. Indeed, brokerage firms undertake all these transactions. Purchase transactions can be realized by the parties conveying their transaction orders to the brokerage firms. All these purchase transactions are carried out electronically based on supply and demand, and there are fluctuations depending on the course of the supply and demand relationship.

Stock

In definitional terms, a stock is an investment instrument based on owning a certain portion of a publicly traded company. Investment instruments such as stocks are called market shares and stocks. Depending on the market capitalization of the companies, investors who generate income often earn from dividend payments (the distribution of profits earned by the company in which we are a shareholder to all existing shareholders on a per-share basis) or from direct increases in stock prices. Stability in this regard belongs to large companies compared to small companies.

Current Groups Where Stocks Are Located

Stocks are traded under 4 Groups. These groups are A, B, C, and D. There are some issues to consider when buying stocks. These issues are:

• The extent and/or market in which the company whose shares we are considering buying or have decided to buy is publicly traded on the Istanbul Stock Exchange,

• The total market capitalization of the investment company's securities,

• Whether the mentioned stocks are traded in the close monitoring market,

• The Free Float of the stocks we are considering buying or have decided to buy. Regarding our specific topic, the characteristics of D group stocks are that D group stocks are traded somewhat differently compared to other stocks. Transactions of D group stocks are seen in markets and platforms outside the Istanbul Stock Exchange stock trading environment. While margin trading or short selling is not valid for D group stocks, the Markets and Platforms where D group stocks are currently traded are:

• Close Monitoring Market,

• Qualified Investor Issuance Market,

• Pre-Market Trading Platform,

• Emerging Companies Market.
