How to Park a Car

The most stressful aspect of driving, whether during the process of obtaining a driver's license or while actually driving, is parking the car. Both novice and experienced drivers encounter problems with parking. In this article, we will explain how to park a car and share easy methods. There are several ways to park. In parking lots, reverse or forward parking is easier than parallel parking.

What Are the Car Parking Methods?

In an area with different vehicles, there are two parking methods: horizontal parking and vertical parking. Vertical parking is relatively easier, provided you pay attention to the distance between the two vehicles. Horizontal parking requires more steering and mirror checks compared to vertical parking. Another point to consider while parking is to adjust the distance from other vehicles so that you don't scratch them when you open your doors, and also to avoid obstructing their entry and exit.

Vertical Parking

This is a method of parking by correctly calculating the distance to the left and right of the parking space between two vehicles. It is easier and faster than other methods.

Horizontal Parking

Horizontal parking is the most time-consuming parking method. When you find a space between two vehicles that is large enough not to crowd either your car or the other vehicles, you should move your car away from the vehicle behind you and drive parallel to the vehicle in front of you. While doing this, maintain a distance of at least half a meter from the vehicle in front. Stop when the bumper of the vehicle in front of you is aligned with the rear tires of your car. Then, turn your steering wheel fully to the right and reverse slowly and carefully into the space, maintaining a 45-degree angle with your vehicle. Continue reversing until you can see the license plate of the vehicle behind you in your side mirror. You should check how close you are to the vehicles in front or behind you, and after completing these steps, straighten your steering wheel.

Reverse Parking

The steps for reverse parking are similar to horizontal parking, but the advantage of reverse parking is that there is no vehicle in front to obstruct your view, and approaching vehicles are more easily visible. When reverse parking, after putting your car in reverse, you can check the distance to the adjacent vehicles and park appropriately.

Things to Consider While Parking

The first rule of parking is not to panic and not to get flustered by the traffic around you. When parking your car, all its functions, namely the steering wheel, mirrors, and brakes, should be under your complete control. Do not hesitate to ask for help from people around you in case of any issues.
